The Gynecologic Oncology program is a collaborative effort between Wentworth-Douglass Hospital (WDH) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) that offers advanced care to women facing a new gynecologic cancer diagnosis.
Prior to this collaboration, when surgery by a subspecialist was recommended as part of a patient's treatment plan, women were required to travel to larger medical centers outside their community. In November of 2008, Dr. John Schorge joined the active staff of WDH, making it possible for WDH to offer a multidisciplinary approach to care that includes access to advanced surgical services, medical and radiation oncology and the guidance of an Oncology Certified Nurse Navigator. Patients in need of referral to MGH for surgery may receive follow-up care and services at WDH.
